It started as a personal statement, but I think it turned out as a symbolic painting about ALL of our lost: losing our treasures as Mother Earth, our Life, our Love, our Loved Ones, relatives, pets, etc.
I stooped to work on the other, bigger size image, because THIS wanted to be born...

expressive...., impressive...., and somehow a bit 'creepy' too.., personally I think one of your best because of the impact..,
so this "losing" is a bit of "winning" too.. ;-) xx

Thank you for the good words, Brenda! I feel relieved, after I painted this...

You have created or captured a harrowing and somewhat grotesque snapshot in this work Mari. I think it is very well done, although I can't say that I like looking at it. The relative size and positioning of the hand are very much "in your face" and the image forces something upon the viewer. But through that perhaps your intention and title are upheld. It is a difficult subject and you have invoked a reaction in me as I see this on the screen that connects me to the emotions of your outpouring.

Thank you for your sensitive words, Michael! You've reacted always with great empathy for my works and I'm grateful for that.
Yes, it is a very difficult subject and hard to avoid being too dramatic, or theatrical, but I tried to formulate my feelings (life-experience?) as honest as possible...maybe I was too egoistic not to care about the discomfort that it invokes in the viewer...

Without the ego how can we know our separation and identity?
And as for discomfort, we are all likely to encounter that quality as we extract ourselves from the fears we have embraced, albeit it that some of those instances inadvertently "happened".
I feel that your subject in this image is confronting that discomfort, and that your own release (mentioned to Brenda above) is connected with the realisation and open admission that this particular creative process has led you through.
Sometimes, in Biodanza (which Shona teaches) I gaze into the eyes of another, and we find ourselves sharing tears which neither of us needs to explain. Such extended moments bring real and deep release, cleansing and reconnection to our greater potential.
This work you have painted, it has afforded us a chance to be open together, to feel together, the know more together. Thanks x
